Following a successful pilot in Bangladesh, the SIG Foundation is expanding its flagship “Cartons for Good” initiative to Thailand in partnership with Ampol Food. This project uses SIG’s filling technology to upcycle surplus mangoes and longkong into nutritious puddings for elderly people in need. The initiative tackles two global challenges: food waste—one-third of food produced is lost—and malnutrition, affecting 733 million people worldwide. In Thailand, 34% of seniors live below the poverty line, with many facing severe dental issues. The soft, nutrient-rich pudding offers a safe, easy-to-consume solution.

“For the first time, a customer is using our technology in their own facility,” said Holger Dickers, Managing Director of SIG Foundation. “This marks a milestone in reducing food loss and malnutrition.”

In its first year, the program will process 15 tons of surplus fruit into 288,000 carton packs, reaching 1,000 households daily via Village Health Volunteers. Used packs will be collected and recycled by Eco-Friendly Thailand, ensuring circularity.

The Nutri-Care mango pudding was named a Top 50 finalist in the “Sustainability” category at THAIFEX–ANUGA ASIA 2025, recognizing its innovation and impact.

All contributions, including SIG’s packaging and paperboard from Stora Enso, are donated. “This collaboration addresses both food waste and health,” said Dr. Kriangsak Theppadungporn, Managing Director at Ampol Food.

“This project reflects our global commitments to nutrition, food waste reduction, and circular packaging,” added Vatcharapong Ungsrisawasdi, Head of Market at SIG. For more information about Cartons for Good and SIG Foundation’s sustainability initiatives, visit https://www.sig.biz/en/foundation
