New 250 ml offering delivers 25 g of protein, targeting demand for convenient, nutrition-focused dairy products
Milky Mist Dairy Food Limited has expanded its value-added dairy portfolio with the launch of High Protein Lactose-free Milk, entering a product segment that combines everyday dairy consumption with a higher protein offering. The new product is available in a 250 ml pack containing 25 g of protein. The launch reflects the company's strategy to develop specialised dairy products as consumer interest in protein-rich food options grows. Initially being introduced through selected trade channels in India, the product is expected to reach a wider market through a phased distribution expansion.
A key feature of the new offering is its use of **ultrafiltration technology**, a membrane-based processing method that helps concentrate milk proteins by separating selected components of milk. This allows manufacturers to develop dairy products with higher protein content without relying solely on the addition of external protein ingredients.
The lactose-free formulation also broadens the product's potential appeal to consumers seeking dairy-based protein options while managing lactose intake.
Building on demand for protein-rich dairy
The launch builds on Milky Mist's existing portfolio of high-protein paneer, Greek yoghurt and Skyr. According to the company, demand across these product categories has grown by approximately 50% year-on-year over the past two years, encouraging further investment in the segment.
By adding high-protein milk, the company is extending its nutrition-focused range into a familiar everyday product format. The compact pack offers a convenient option for individual consumption at home, at work or while travelling.
Dr. K. Rathnam, Whole-time Director and Chief Executive Officer of Milky Mist Dairy Food Limited, said the company sees significant growth potential in high-protein dairy and intends to strengthen its value-added portfolio through product innovation and technology-led manufacturing.
Focus on value-added dairy innovation
The launch highlights the growing role of specialised processing technologies in developing differentiated dairy products. For manufacturers, such products provide an opportunity to move beyond conventional milk and dairy staples towards offerings designed around specific consumer needs.
Milky Mist plans to scale its high-protein range in line with market demand. The pace of wider distribution and consumer acceptance will be important factors in determining the product's contribution to the company's expanding value-added dairy business.
