Orkla India is preparing to accelerate its expansion in the country’s processed food sector, with a strategy centred on premium products, health-focused offerings, digital channels and selective acquisitions. The company, which operates brands including MTR Foods, Eastern and Rasoi Magic, aims to strengthen its position as a diversified food business over the coming years.
A key part of the strategy is the development of products that address changing consumer preferences. Growing interest in convenient meals, better-for-you foods and premium food formats is encouraging manufacturers to expand beyond traditional categories. Orkla India plans to use its existing brand portfolio and product-development capabilities to participate in these emerging segments.
The company is also paying greater attention to the rapid expansion of quick-commerce platforms. Faster delivery networks are changing how packaged foods reach consumers and creating additional opportunities for brands to introduce products suited to smaller, more frequent purchases.
Another area under consideration is consolidation within India's fragmented spices market. Orkla India has indicated that it remains open to acquisitions that can complement its existing operations and strengthen its presence in relevant food categories. Partnerships in the convenience-food segment are also being considered as part of its broader expansion approach.
International business remains an important component of the company's growth plans. Orkla India currently exports its products to 42 countries, while exports account for around 21% of its revenue, according to the company's management. The business expects potential Free Trade Agreements with key markets to improve market access and support international sales.
The company has previously identified portfolio expansion, strategic acquisitions, international growth and greater household penetration among its key growth priorities. Its recent strategy therefore combines organic expansion with opportunities to broaden its product and market footprint.
With consumers increasingly looking for convenient, nutritious and differentiated food products, Orkla India's approach reflects the wider transformation taking place across India's packaged-food industry. The coming years are likely to see greater investment in product innovation, distribution, digital retail and category expansion as established food companies compete for changing consumer demand.
